Units of Application (UoAs)
2010 Round 2
There will be eight deaneries participating in the second round of recruitment to 2010 CMT CT1 posts, listed below:
- East Midlands (North)
- East Midlands (South)
- East of England
- North Western
- South West Peninsula
- Wales (Southeast; Mid & Southwest; North)
- Wessex
- Yorkshire and the Humber
Seven deaneries/UoAs either have already filled their vacant 2010 CMT CT1 posts in Round 1, or will shortly have filled them, and hence will not be taking part in Round 2:
For more information on any of these, including some background on the regions, schemes available, further contact details etc, please click on the name of the relevant UoA.
Selecting a UoA
There are many things to take into account when selecting which UoAs to specify on your application. Factors to consider include:
- Are you committed to one area - in which case you may wish to apply for several different specialties in the deanery
- Are you committed to a particular specialty (CMT in this instance) - in which case, if you are prepared to move anywhere to do this specialty, look at the competition ratios in the table below to maximise your chances of appointment
- Do you have a strong CV? In which case, you are likely to be called for interview in the area / specialty you desire
- Is your CV lacking in 'desirable' criteria (according to the Person Specification)? In which case, you may get excluded from very competitive deaneries, but remain eligible for the specialty. Consider applying to one of the less competitive deaneries. You are much more likely to be invited to assessment centre at your preferred UoAs here, where you can demonstrate your attributes and suitability for CMT appointment
Historical Competitions Ratios - 2009
Please use the below information for guidance only - there is no guarantee that application patterns or numbers of posts available, will be similar in 2010.
We advise applicants to examine historical competition ratios so as to assess the likelihood of being granted an interview in the deanery they will select as first choice. It is unlikely that the most competitive deaneries will be able to interview all applicants. The weakest applications will be cascaded to the next choice deanery with available interview capacity.
In the event of total CMT CT1 application numbers exceeding the total CMT CT1 interview capacity in England & Wales, some applicants may not be offered any interview in Round 1. Please be aware that further opportunities will be available in Round 2:
| Deanery/UoA | All 1st choice applicants* Round 1 2009 | Approx final number of CT1 posts, Aug 2009** | Applicant : post ratio 2009 |
|---|---|---|---|
| East Midlands (North) | 64 | 39 | 1.6 |
| East Midlands (South) | 48 | 30 | 1.6 |
| East of England | 171 | 107 | 1.6 |
| KSS | 83 | 67 | 1.2 |
| London | 917 | 317 | 2.9 |
| Mersey | 127 | 62 | 2.0 |
| North Western | 249 | 103 | 2.4 |
| Northern | 182 | 79 | 2.3 |
| Oxford | 87 | 37 | 2.4 |
| Severn | 107 | 57 | 1.9 |
| South West Peninsula | 50 | 38 | 1.3 |
| Wessex | 81 | 65 | 1.2 |
| West Midlands | 192 | 110 | 1.7 |
| Yorkshire & Humber | 212 | 168 | 1.3 |
| ENGLAND TOTAL | 2570 | 1279 | 2.0 |
* these numbers include all applicants, including ineligible applicants, so the eligible applicant-to-post ratios are slightly less than shown.
** post numbers increased during the recruitment cycle; these numbers represent the minimum number of posts. 1,279 was the final total maximum. 2010 CMT CT post numbers are likely to be similar but cannot be confirmed until 2010.
Non-coordinated UoAs
At the current time, the co-ordinated CMT recruitment project does not include all UK units of application, and thus we cannot provide information on those UoAs outside of our scheme.
