No knowledge test in CMT recruitment 2010

09-Nov-2009

The process of national recruitment to 2010 CMT posts will NOT include a knowledge test.

In 2009, the CMT recruitment team piloted a national CMT machine-marked knowledge test (MMT) based on the test employed in the GP recruitment process. The test showed good predictive value for appointability. In future, once the logistics of running a national test are resolved, the CMT team will investigate methods by which a knowledge test could augment the existing recruitment process, but for 2010 we can confirm that candidates are not required to sit a knowledge test as part of their application to CMT.

Please note that other bodies (including the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges) will be running knowledge test pilots on a local level; but the national CMT process does not include a knowledge test.

Should candidates apply to other specialties where the recruitment process does include a knowledge test - such as General Practice - then of course, they will still need to sit that test as a part of their application to that specialty; but the score achieved in that test will have no bearing on a candidate's application to CMT.
